“Nicolosa”
is the name of one of the more interesting symbols of Piobbico.
Above the eastern gate of the medieval village may be seen in fact
a 1500s bas relief showing an image with 3 heads with below the names of
this magical figure.
According to a recent study, the image seems to be a singular
rendering of Prudence, inasmuch as the 3 heads (as well as typifying the 3
ages of human life: youth, maturity and old age) would indicate the
contemporary vision of the past, present and future and its name would
derive from the Latin “Nihil audit” or “Nihil osa”. The mysterious
figure would therefore be the image of he who, looking into the past,
present or the future – evaluates all with prudence . The apartment with
its mysterious name no doubt has a simpler history, but it still retains
its charm and traditional warmth thanks to its rustic furnishings, its
beams and to the stone which is exposed and to all those details that
furnish the rooms.
As well as having a large living room with a rustic fireplace and a
mezzanine floor, the “Nicolosa” also has a large complete kitchen,
three elegant bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
